Goals and Pixie dust
Its actually a day after “That time of the week”, I’ve been busy, so get over it. Please? I didn’t mean to snap. I love you.
Personal stuff: house things are looking good, I have some plans for the new bedroom which will make recording an album a lot easier. I also have a lot of ideas for the album, so that is a good start.
I feel utterly awful tonight, so I’m gonna try to keep this one short.
ON WITH THE GOODNESS:
Song of the week
Beautiful but boring - Dimbleby & Capper

These guys were supporting fun in London, and after looking them up, I’ve become a little obsessed with THIS song.
She has an amazing voice, and it come across brilliantly live. They came on stage, 4 guys wearing hoodies and weird bird masks with the girl shown above, and did a 5 person drum intro on a bass drum stood on a chair. The drummer didn’t actually use a foot pedal for the whole set, he stood up and hit the bass drum which remained on the chair, it was interesting but sounded fantastic.
They are starting to get big so hopefully we’ll be hearing more from them soon, go to see them if you get the chance.
Also, I do love her a little bit.
Youtube video of the week
A golden oldie. Still funny.
News story of the week
Gunman Demands Discovery Channel Saves Planet

Thanks to Adam for showing me this one. Seems mad man James Jay Lee entered the discovery channel building and took three people hostage, demanding that they change their programming to save the planet. His demands seemed to be based around the core concept of reducing the amount of humans to save the animals. A full list of his demands can be found HERE.
He was 10 days out of probation from performing a less than peaceful protest at the same building in 2008.
He was shot dead at the scene when he raised his gun to a hostage. Thankfully the discover channel line up was unaffected.
Game of the week

I had the beta test of this game before it came out, but never got around to buying the full game before I sold my playstation 3. Needless to say, when I got my new one it was the first on my list of games to buy.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the concept, you play as your very own customisable sack boy (That happy fella in the picture). There are a bunch of levels to play through, which are fun, but the main point of the game is user generated content.
Using the games creation tools you can create pretty much anything you can think of (if you are willing to put in the effort).
I couldn’t really be bothered with it for a while, but over the last week I have sat down and I am now a little bit obsessed. I published my first level, after working on it for about 12 hours, which received a disappointing 2 star rating, but I’m not discouraged. Little Big Planet 2 is coming out in November, I’m not sure if Stephen Fry will be taking the reigns as the narrator again, but its definitely on the preorder list.
If you have the game, search for me (jaytmek) and play my level, its fun! honest!
Rant of the week
Thanks to Aaron Ulph of http://www.ulphy.com for bringing this one to my attention. Here is the video to which it relates:
The news story which sparked this rant, titled “Greatest free-kick was no fluke: Roberto Carlos’ 1997 ‘freak’ goal explained by scientists” can be found here.
I know, the daily mail etc etc, however the BBC has also reported on this.
What “scientists” have decided to investigate and reveal, is that the goal in question WASN’T a fluke, but can actually be explained by physics.
WOAH! STOP THE PRESS!
You mean kicking a ball comes down to physics now? The goal wasn’t the product of pixie dust and magic?
Any middle school kid can tell you that when you kick something, you are transferring energy, and a whole heap of physics comes in to play. Do we really need scientists to waste their brilliant minds on this, like it is something they have recently discovered?
Part of me thinks it is actually the scientific community playing a joke on the less intelligent football fans.
Is it just me? I just can’t see the relevance of what they have published, or what it is they’ve discovered. I don’t see how it is news worthy. The whole thing really does baffle me.
The best bit is, how does “proving” it was physics, and not pixie dust, mean that the goal wasn’t a fluke?
Football players are talented, but I very much doubt Roberto Carlos was performing the insanely complex calculations required to make such a shot on his run up to the ball.
This entire story is pointless. Utterly pointless.
I might have to start doing a “weekly pointless scientific ‘discovery’” section. I can’t count how many useless results I’ve seen published. Scientists discover caffeine helps you think, they discover smoking is worse for you in the morning, they discover that there is a hair on Boris Johnson’s head which is the exact size, shape and colour of a banana they found in Sainsbury’s, if you look at it from really far away.
Who cares?!
